How My Business Came About

Income Tax Advisor

I had been a self-employed homemaker, wife, and mother for many years and my momma wanted to take the H&R Block Income Tax course to learn how to prepare income taxes, and she offered to pay for me to go, so I gladly accepted, since I had not found someone that I liked to prepare my taxes.  I was married to my first husband and had two school-aged boys.  I originally thought I would be able to get some insight into what field makes the best money, so I could figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

Texas Notary Public

I was working for Block during my 11th tax season, and a client came in and asked for a Notary Public, and it was not the first time someone had stopped to ask, so I decided to apply to become a Notary Public in 2008 to help serve my community.

Title Search & Property Deeds

Starting in May of 2012 I learned how to do a title search in the land records recorded in the County records, and how to do Property Deeds.  I spent many, many hours reading Deeds, and learning what Deed was for what purpose.  I had to figure out how to sell a piece of property that had a clouded title.  A clouded title is not a clear that a Title Company will sell you Title Insurance for.  I learned that the family Attorney that prepared the Deed had included the entire family homestead on the Deed, instead of only what was actually sold.

Jenny Baldwin - Ordained Minister

I had worked for Block for 15 years when I needed a hysterectomy, and the only way they would allow me to get insurance to help cover the costs was for me to quit my job.  While I was waiting for my surgery, the Holy Spirit gave me the idea to become an Ordained Minister, so that I could Officiate Weddings.  I got Ordained on 9-17-2013.  I never thought of officiating weddings before, and this was before I had even opened up my own business.

I absolutely love being a part of one of your most memorable days.  I usually do simple quick elopements, but I also enjoy writing custom scripts for more personal ceremonies.

O my Josh!’s Story

I was walking up and down my driveway one afternoon, asking the Lord what my purpose was here on this Earth.  And the Holy Spirit said, “You can do for your community all of the things you have learned over your lifetime.  You know how to do many things that you are already doing for people, you just need to charge them something.”  So, I opened a business in my little rental house that I hadn’t rented out since 2006.  I had previously moved everything I didn’t want into the house and was running a resale shop out of it.

I did not have a business name for over a year and a half, because of the diverse services I offer, I just couldn't find a name that could help tell what all I do.  The Lord told me to put myself on Google, but since I didn’t have a name, I made an account and named it Self Employed Notary, Bookkeeper, Tax Advisor, and Ordained Minister.  The business grew slowly.

Then one day I was working and Joshua, my youngest son, came home from school, saying, "Mom, now the teacher is even doing it!"  So I asked him what the teacher was doing.

And he explained how a classmate had started calling him, Oh my Josh, then it spread until even the teacher was saying it.  I immediately got extremely excited about the contagiousness of this.  So I immediately started researching.  I wanted to see if the name was available as a DBA, so I needed to see what Joshua was getting from the Lord.  Several days passed, and I had been asking Joshua to show me on paper what he sees as the name of our new business.  And He wrote O'my Josh!

While researching, I discovered the meaning of, "Are you Joshing me?"  And discovered that it was lying & stealing.  So, since I, like many others, can't stand a liar, nor a thief, I decided to make my slogan, "Standing on the honest truth."  Everyone that knows me, knows that I am honest to a fault!

I filed my DBA for “O my Josh!” on July 23rd, 2015.  But, I couldn’t figure out why Joshua misspelled the Oh in “O my Josh!”  Then about one and a half years after we were given our business name, I was reading the BIBLE and I finally realized that the reason Joshua had spelled “O my Josh!” without the 'h' is because he learned to read out of the BIBLE, and that is how it is spelled in God’s Word!  So, when asked where our name comes from, I can honestly say that it came from our Heavenly Father.  We are truly Blessed!
